Would God Let You Die of Starvation Like He Does Others?

imagesHave you ever read a headline that said: Millions of Birds Dying of Starvation?

Nope… And you never will.

How can I be so sure?

Because God promises he would take care of them.

Matt 6:26 NLT:

Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?

Just think about this…

If God cares so much for birds…birds. I'm talking birds. Little feathery things that just fly around and make noise...don't you think he's also looking out for you?

But people die of starvation all over the world, right? 

True.

But those people are not putting their trust in God.

Show me a person who has rock solid faith in God yet they are starving to death. Bet you can't find one. I've never heard of anyone having God at the center of his or her life starve to death. Not one.

Psalm 37:25:

Once I was young, and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned or their children begging for bread.

Matt 6:33 NLT:

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

It's impossible for someone who makes the kingdom of God first priority to starve or not have his or her basic needs met.

Have confidence in your God.

Put him first.

Do this, and you will always have your needs met.

Here’s the no-fail formula: God 1st = Needs Met.

You're more important than the birds.

Believe it.

Can You Handle 5 Minutes of Prayer a Day? Me Either!

I hope not! Why? Well, lets think of it this way…if I only prayed 5 minutes a day, I wouldn't be able to even scratch the surface of all my needs and the needs of other people I want to pray for.

And 5 minutes a day with the most important being in my life?

Nope!

I need more time with God! There's no way I can tell him everything that's on my heart in just 5 minutes.

  • No way I can let him speak to me and tell me what I need to know for my day in 5 minutes.
  • No way I can unload all of my cares on him in 5 min.
  • No way I can thank him for everything I'm grateful for in 5 minutes.
  • No way I can kick back and enjoy his presence in just 5 minutes.

I need more time with Him!

The Simple Solution:

Pray continually throughout the day. It's really not as hard as you might think. Just make it an ongoing conversation.

1 Thes 5:16-18 MSG

…pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.

Just include God in everything you’re doing. Like he's your constant companion, always by your side. Glued to you and attached to your hip. Where you go, he goes. What you're involved in, he's involved in.

Makes sense then, that you'd talk to him about the things you are doing each day and night right?

Learn How to Pray By Trial & Error

When I was in high school, I worked at a little Italian pizza place. We served all kinds of Italian dishes, subs, and the best garlic bread this side of Italy. But we specialized in pizza. Real hand tossed pizza. Out of fresh dough made daily. Ahh, I can smell it now. My mouth is watering!

The first couple of weeks I worked there, I waited tables. But it was my goal to get back into that kitchen and make the pizza.

Sure enough, after a few weeks, I was brought alongside the head pizza creator, the owner himself. He showed me how to stretch the dough, how to toss it into the air in a perfect spiral so it would land on my knuckles and then gently pull it out, shaping it with each toss.

It looked fun. It looked easy. Till I tried it. As the old saying goes, "It wasn't as easy as it looked." But I kept at it. Kept tossing, kept practicing. Soon, I had it down and was able to make over a dozen hand tossed pizzas to order in a matter of minutes. And they were lip-smacking good!

As we know, on the job training is the best training, so why not use that kind of training for prayer? If you want to pray effectively, Learn How to Pray By Doing It.

Get at it like I got at the pizza making. Give it a whirl and you'll develop your skills as a pray-er! You can listen to others pray and you can read prayers others have penned, but until you dive in and pray all by yourself, you're not going to really "get it."

Since your time is limited, here's a few ideas for on the job training in the prayer arena:

  • Pray in your car.
  • Pray while you're taking a walk.
  • Pray as you're cleaning your house.
  • Pray as you're on the job (under your breath).
  • Pray with your spouse.
  • Pray with your kids.
  • Pray with your friends.
  • Pray over your problems
  • Pray for the attitudes you are struggling with.
  • Pray for situations where you need God to turn things around.
  • Pray for others who have situations you are aware of that need God's touch.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Rejoice always, pray continually,give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Just a few weeks ago, my friend Kathy and I were walking in the mall weaving in and out amongst all the busy people shopping. I mentioned I had a toothache that was really bugging me. She simply laid her hand on my back and prayed for me as we were walking: "Jesus, thank you for your healing and removing Linda's toothache." That was it. Simple prayer, simple faith.

And know what? My toothache went away.

So want to learn how to pray? Do it by trial and error.

On the job training is the best way to learn how to pray. Pray anywhere you are. Don't get weird about it. Don't do it in King James Language (Unless that's how you talk to everyone else, though I sincerely doubt it.) Don't elevate your voice so everyone within a mile radius can hear you. Just pray. God can hear your softly spoken prayers even above the lawnmower next door.

The more you pray, the better you will get at it. Give prayer a whirl! You'll be seeing answers in no time! The best way to learn how to pray is to simply do it.

How to Pray for a Miracle: The Craziest Prayer I Ever Prayed, “The Miracle of Dove Soap”

One of the craziest prayers I ever prayed was that God would never let my soap bottle run dry. Yeah, it's kind of reminiscent of the story in the Bible about the poor widow who was told to bake cakes for the prophet, Elisha. That was a crazy story too. She was challenged to make food without the things she needed to make food. That could be a problem – but, not with God!

The Craziest Prayer I Ever Prayed

I was reading this story in my Bible and thought, well, if God can miraculously make the widow’s oil and flour containers replenish every time she put it back in her closet, he can do the same for me. So I got bold. I got a little crazy. I stepped out and asked God to do something totally out there. I prayed for soap! Hey, my faith was stirred by what I had just read so why not? Struggling to Pay Bills

The year was 1991. My husband and I had been married less than a year. Like most newly married couples, we struggled each week to pay the bills and keep all of our supplies stocked.

We lived in a cute little apartment that had all new appliances because we were the first to live there. We had a dishwasher, but in thinking about how we could cut corners and save money, we choose to hand-wash our dishes rather than run the dishwasher. But we still had to buy soap, right? Nope!

We had a little bottle of Dove soap, one of those trial size containers up on our counter top. And we had a bigger bottle of Dove soap that we kept under the kitchen counter below the sink. That's the one we used to refill the little one when it would run out. So we've got two Dove soap bottles. One little one on the kitchen sink, one big one under the kitchen sink. Follow me here.

Dove Soap That Never Ran Out

As I was washing the dishes that day, I was talking to God and asking him to meet all of our needs. I had just read that far out story about the widow whose flour and oil had never run dry. And then a crazy kind of faith came over me. I said,

“God, you know we are struggling to make ends meet. We are faithful to you to tithe and give offerings. So I'm going to ask you to do something for me - will you please never allow this Dove soap bottle down here to run dry?”

I was talking about the big soap bottle under the sink. I picked it up and I said,

“Lord, the next time I take this out and refill the little bottle and put it back, just replenish it. Please don't ever let it run dry. Thank you, Amen.”

That's it. Simple prayer prayed with simple faith.

Know what? The next time I went to refill that little soap bottle with the big one, I took note of how much was in the big bottle. Then the next time I went to refill the little one, I opened up that cabinet below, grabbed that big bottle expecting to see enough soap in there to fill the little one. I got it.

Let me tell you, I don't know how it happened. I don't get how God did it, all I know is that every single time I went to refill that little bottle with the bigger bottle there was always enough. It never ran dry.

My Soap Has NEVER Run Dry

To this day, I still have those two bottles of Dove soap. And know what? They still have soap in them. That was 21 years ago. Now, after all those years I keep them in a box in the garage. And though they are yellowish from age, and the labels are brittle and old, and the Kmart price tag is falling off, they are still full of soap! I refilled that little bottle over and over and over again through the years with the big bottle of soap. And it has never run dry.

Does prayer work?

Yes! Does God still do miraculous things in response to crazy faith-filled prayers? Yes, he does. I have a Dove soap bottle to prove it.

Has God answered ALL of my prayers? No….But he does answer prayer! So with that in mind, PRAY! What have you got to lose?

Keep calm, are you kidding? Tornadoes, bombings, drive-by shootings. Deadly disease, sickness, lay-offs, kids running away from home. How do you keep calm with potentially devastating events  on your horizon? Stick with me, and I'll show you how you can keep calm by praying when dark things are lurking in the distance.

You've probably seen the "Keep Calm and Carry On" images floating all over the internet. The motto too has become a popular response in the midst of difficult events. It's a great slogan, that's why it's so catchy. But do you know where it came from?

A Glimpse Into the History of "Keep Calm & Carry On"

When the Second World War was in full swing, the British Government commissioned the Ministry of Information to take care of publicity and propaganda. Their job was to design a number of morale boosting posters that would be displayed across the British Isles during the testing times that lay ahead.

The posters were put in strategic places, to be seen by those facing the threat of war. They were placed in the public transport areas, shop windows, notice boards and hoardings across Britain. The most comforting of these posters read, "Keep Calm and Carry On". It was straightforward, to the point, and comforting to all who needed the reminder.

It's amazing that decades later people still find this message so reassuring as we face our modern dilemmas. I have put a little spin on this saying for you, my readers, that will bring you even more comfort in the tough times that may lay ahead for you.

Keep Calm & Pray!

During World War 2, German planes bombed London. Houses were leveled. But there was a woman who remained calm amidst the rubble. She read Psalm 121:4 which says, "Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep," she told the Lord, "Lord, since You don't sleep, then there is not point in both of us keeping awake. I will sleep while You keep watch." And she did! While she slept, the Lord protected her and her house.

What Might You be Afraid of?

  • Things that lurk in the night?
  • Things that fly at you like arrows in the day?
  • Disease that prowls through the darkness?
  • Disaster that erupts at high noon?

God protects you from:

  • tornadoes
  • earthquakes
  • drive-by shootings
  • bombs
  • viruses
  • deadly disease
  • a tsunami
  • rape
  • kidnap
  • murder
  • sinkholes
  • bankruptcy

No matter what is on your trouble-list, take comfort in Psalm 91: 5-12 MSG:

Fear nothing-- not wild wolves in the night, not flying arrows in the day, not disease that prowls through the darkness,not disaster that erupts at high noon. Even though others succumb all around, drop like flies right and left, no harm will even graze you. You'll stand untouched, watch it all from a distance, watch the wicked turn into corpses. Yes, because God's your refuge, the High God your very own home, evil can't get close to you, harm can't get through the door. He ordered his angels to guard you wherever you go. If you stumble, they'll catch you; their job is to keep you from falling.

You don't have to fear, God is watching over you 24/7. He never takes a nap or even a break. All so you can stay calm and carry on because you stayed calm, and prayed!

A Prayer Hack That Will Help You Love Your Messy Self

UnknowYou're a mess you say? No problem. But that makes you not love yourself so much. Here's a prayer hack that will help you love your messy self!

Picture This:

You are no longer convinced God hates you. Though you can't stand yourself sometimes, he's all grins when he sees you. You don't like the things you say and do. He doesn't either, but he still loves you. Even when your sin could be nauseating, he doesn't turn away. He's there loving you back to right living. You're loved. No ifs. No ands. No buts. God loves you regardless.

Scripture This:

1 John 3:29 NCV

If our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.

1 John 5:13 NLT

I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.

Colossians 1:13-14 NLT

For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.

Pray This:

God, when I'm tempted to doubt your grace, wake me up. You love me too much to leave me in doubt. You never keep a list of sins consulting it often. In fact, on your list, there's nothing listed. How did that happen? Oh, yes, your mercy. Your love. Your Son. He covered it and I'm eternally forgiven and eternally thankful.

Say This:

I have been purchased. I have been given freedom and forgiven. I will not condemn myself anymore. The past is in the rearview mirror and I refuse to look back. God has made my heart clean and I am extravagantly loved. I will remind myself today that God loves me regardless of what I've done or who I am. I'm loved.

A Picture of God's Protection & How to Pray For It

images-1I heard a story about a farmer who was surveying the damage a fire had caused to his farm. He walked all around the farm looking for anything he could salvage. It seemed hopeless as everything was burnt to a crisp. When he came across his chicken coop, he looked down to see the charred carcass of a mother hen. He flipped the carcass over with the tip of his boot, and to his amazement, little live chicks ran out from under it! The mother had died protecting her chicks from the fire.

This mama chicken with big wings and the will to protect reminds me of the way God takes care of us, his chicks! You may have never thought of yourself as a lil chick, but that's how the Bible describes us.

Psalms 91:4

He will cover you with his feathers.

He will shelter you with his wings.

His faithful promises are your armor and protection.

I love that fact that if we are believers in God, we are under his wings of protection. That's something we can take comfort in when life seems turbulent. When the bill collectors are calling, when the doctor calls with a bad report, you can call on the name of The Lord, and he will spread out his wings for you to duck under.

What have you been ducking under lately?

  • Maybe you've found yourself in your lover's arms thinking he or she can replace God's. They can't.
  • Maybe you've found yourself in your bottle of Jack Daniels, thinking it can wash away your pain. It can't.
  • Maybe you've found yourself working your way to a bloody pulp hoping to cover your situation. You can't.

Only the blood of Jesus offers access into God's Protection System. So if you want protection, you're covered, but you have to duck under and take cover.

If you'd rather not, and you take cover on your own - well, you're really just out there in the open. Vulnerable and without a chance. Sooner or later, circumstances will catch up with you and they will crush you. Why not seek safety under the shadow of His wings? When you do, you have this promise of protection…

2 Corinthians 4:8 & 9 NLT:

We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.

Like that mother hen, Jesus is the bigger, stronger being that died protecting you from the fire. And because of his death, you don't have to experience the fire of hell or the fire of earthly trauma. All you have to do is believe in what he did for you and you'll be protected.

His feathers are big enough, strong enough, and his wings wide enough to cover you no matter what comes your way.

Give me courage as I hope in you. Let me lie down unafraid and sleep in peace. Tonight I want to rest in safety. I look to you for help. Make me confident in you.

Say This:

I am full of hope. I'll relax. I'll be confident again. I look around, sit back, and take it easy. I am without a care in the world.  The Fear-of-God builds up confidence in me, and makes the world safe for my family and me. I am fully protected and safe in God's care.

 

Are You’re Sad, Depressed, Frustrated When Ending Your Prayer Time? This Will Help


One of the benefits of being a believer is getting to pour your heart out to God, right? True. Feels good to vent, and share your frustrations. And since God's ears are always open to your prayers, you've got an audience 24/7. That's more time than your spouse or friends will give you. Problem is, when we spend so much of our prayer time, pouring our sorrows into God's loving arms, it can leave us sad instead of happy.

Have you ever ended your prayer time feeling worse than when you started? Let me show you what you can do to change that. You can still unload on God; his shoulders are broad enough for that. But it's how you end your prayer time that will determine if you're in a good mood or a bad one after your done praying.

There is a danger in pouring our sorrows out to God if we don't also pour out something happy. You know people, who talk non-stop about the trouble and pain in their life, don't ya? And those folks are not very happy are they? Nope. Because when a person is absorbed and only focused on their difficulties, it actually puts them in a bad mood.

If you want to have a pity party in front of God, go for it. He's all ears. But if that's how you end it, you're going to be in a bad mood. I speak from experience! What's the key? Balance. A little bit of this and a little bit of that.

Achieving Peace & Happiness After Sad Prayers

We can get a lot of our prayer cues from David in the Bible. He was a master "pray-er." He prayed some heavy-duty prayers. They weren’t all fun and games. There were people after him and many times he found himself depressed, alone, and hopeless. Take a peak inside his pain:

Psalm 6 1-7 MSG:

Please, GOD, no more yelling, no more trips to the woodshed.

Treat me nice for a change;

I'm so starved for affection.

Can't you see I'm black and blue,

beat up badly in bones and soul?

GOD, how long will it take

for you to let up?

 

Break in, GOD, and break up this fight;

if you love me at all, get me out of here.

I'm no good to you dead, am I?...

 

I'm tired of all this-- so tired. My bed

has been floating forty days and nights

On the flood of my tears.

My mattress is soaked, soggy with tears.

The sockets of my eyes are black holes;

nearly blind, I squint and grope.

But David knew how to get back on track. Notice how he ends his prayer time in this Psalm...

Psalms 18:46-50 MSG:

Live, GOD! Blessings from my Rock,

my free and freeing God, towering!

This God set things right for me

and shut up the people who talked back.

He rescued me from enemy anger,

he pulled me from the grip of upstarts,

He saved me from the bullies.

That's why I'm thanking you, GOD,

all over the world.

That's why I'm singing songs

that rhyme your name.

David ended his prayer with thanksgiving. That right there will set your world back in the upright position. He writes in Psalm 103:2, Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me.

Recording God's Stats

What was David doing here? He was recording the goodness of God. You can too. Remember the winning plays and write them down.

Look how David does it again…

Psalms 30:12 MSG:

I'm about to burst with song;

I can't keep quiet about you.

GOD, my God,

I can't thank you enough.

Psalms 105:1-5 MSG:

Hallelujah!

Thank GOD! Pray to him by name!

Tell everyone you meet what he has done!

Sing him songs, belt out hymns,

translate his wonders into music!

Honor his holy name with Hallelujahs,

you who seek GOD. Live a happy life!

Keep your eyes open for GOD, watch for his works;

be alert for signs of his presence.

Remember the world of wonders he has made,

his miracles, and the verdicts he's rendered--

Take your cues from David, finish up that prayer time of yours by talking about how amazing God is. When you do, it not only changes your mood, but there are a few other advantages too.

Benefits to Ending Your Prayer Time with Thanks:

1. You will build your faith. (You'll feel God put you back together.)

2. You will build your confidence. (Your prayers will be more powerful because your confidence level in God rises.)

3. God sticks around (He is enthroned on the praises of his people.)

4. You will be happier and in a better mood. Joy restored. Sweet deal!

Psalms 18:21-23 MSG:

Now I'm alert to GOD's ways;

I don't take God for granted.

Every day I review the ways he works;

I try not to miss a trick.

I feel put back together,

and I'm watching my step.

Do you thank God for all the great things he does for you on a regular basis? 

Even when you're up against a wall and there's no way out, instead of leaving God with a troubled mind, rehearse what God has brought you through in the past. Start naming them one by one.

  • Remember how God rescued you 6 years ago…. or 20 or 4?
  • Remember how God pulled you through that dark season of your life when…
  • Remember how God healed your body when the doctors said you had…
  • Remember how God provided for you when you lacked…
  • Remember how God restored your relationship with…
  • Remember how God saved you and made you a new person in...
  • Remember the miracles he performed for you!

Now, tell him how thankful you are for each of those things you just brought back to your mind. Let the memories morph into praise.

Make a Record Book for God

When God sets a new record for himself and comes through for you in a powerful way - write it down! Record the stats. Every detail. You will look back on the impossibility of your situations and say, "Whew! Look what God has done!" This is what David did in the Psalms; he recorded the events where God saved his behind. He logged God's goodness.

Go ahead, grab a notebook, nothing fancy, and start a Log Book for God. Fill it up with occurrences of answered prayer. This will build your confidence in God, and make your prayers more powerful because you'll be stirring your faith.

Before you move on from this blog post, take a few moments to think of everything you can be thankful for. What has God done for you? Rehearse it in your mind. Replay it. See yourself back at a desperate spot and how it felt when God moved and pulled you through.

Record, log, and rehearse your miracle moments - when you do, I guarantee you won't end your prayer time sad, depressed, or frustrated. A peace will settle on you like a sweet perfume. You'll have a glimmer in your eye, and hope in your gut. It will be put there by your praise and thanksgiving as you remember what God has done for you.

How to Pray for Depression to Go Away

Are you feeling down? It's ok. Well, not really because you want to feel better, right? I know. I've been there too. I've worked my way into some pretty dark tunnels in the past. Thankfully I found a way out. God's about to help you out of your dark tunnel. Let me show you how to pray depression away so you can get some relief. The light is about to turn on!

Picture This:

You are happy and free from the dark tunnel of depression. Hovering clouds have disappeared. The difficult things that try to get you down do not succeed because you have your eyes focused on God and his love toward you. When you feel yourself slipping into a downward spiral, you know what to do. You pull out a list of God's goodness and he pulls you through. The Son is shining again!

Scripture This:

Psalms 40:16 NLT:

But may all who search for you

be filled with joy and gladness in you.

May those who love your salvation

repeatedly shout, “The Lord is great!”

Psalms 42:11 NLT:

Why am I discouraged?

Why is my heart so sad?

I will put my hope in God!

my Savior and my God!

Pray This:

God, when I'm down and feeling low, I am determined to turn it around. Help me to pull off a good mood instead of a downward one. As I search for you, fill me with joy and gladness in you. Enable me to stay focused on your salvation because that's really the most important thing I have. With that in mind, I will no longer be discouraged. I will put my hope in Jesus because he saves me! Thank you that there is light at the end of the tunnel because there is light in you!

Say This:

If I'm down in the dumps and crying the blues, I will fix my eyes on God— I'll be praising again. He puts a smile on my face. He's my God and he has given me a huge reason to rejoice. Salvation is enough to make me happy. Thinking of God's goodness is keeping me going. I am climbing out of depression and I'm walking in joy today. (Based on the Message version of Psalm 42:11.)

This isn't an end all be all solution. You may be at the place where you need to seek medical help to deal with your depression. But I have found that this prayer and declaration can help put an end to depression. So use it. Repeat it often. But get more help if you need it. It's ok!

Here’s What Happens When You Pray Evil Out of Your Community

What happens when you pray evil out of your community?

Demolition crews arrive on the scene.

Oh true, it may not happen right away. But keep praying anyway and you will see evil move away.

Here's how it went down in my neighborhood:

Just a few miles from where my family and I live was a building that failed to succeed as a thriving business. Why did it fail to succeed? Because my two teenagers and I prayed for it's destruction.

The day the sign went up I drove by and gasped! "Club Lust" is what it read. You're kidding? Really? Just a few miles away from my house? I don't think so. I decided right there I'm not having it. Not going to have a "Club Lust" in my neighborhood. So I spoke up.

Every day I drove by that stinking filthy thing - I prayed that it would go away. Let me clarify. I didn't just ask to God remove it, I told it to go away. I spoke up. I demanded that it be shut down and torn down.

I told my two teenagers our plan. "Whenever we drive by it, we'll speak to it and tell it to go away. We will not have a Club Lust in our neighborhood. It must leave." Ever since then we've been telling that place to be removed.

Demolitions Start in the Spirit Realm

Our little demolition prayer started a couple years ago. It didn't happen right away. But today as I drove by that place my heart did a happy dance! I saw the demolition crew on the ground and bulldozers knocking the building over. It's being removed at this very moment.

As I am typing away on this keyboard, a bulldozer is a few miles away physically removing what I had already removed in the spirit realm. And before you get all bent out of shape thinking I'm cuckoo, just remember that Jesus told us how to handle things like this in Mark 11:23:

 If you have faith in God and don't doubt, you can tell this mountain to get up and jump into the sea, and it will. Everything you ask for in prayer will be yours, if you only have faith. (CEV)

He said speak to your mountain and tell it to move. He didn't say ask that it be moved. He said, "tell it to move". That's what I told Club Lust to do. I told it to move out of my neighborhood. And this is what you can do with the things in your life that need to go. Tell them to move.

Stop Asking & Start Commanding

Too often we keep asking when we should be commanding. If Jesus said you have authority to tell something to move then get gutsy and speak up. Some of you have no problem telling others where to go... so speak up and tell your problems where to go!

The Bar's on Fire!

When I was in Bible college I met a missionary named Mark Triplett. I remember him telling a story about a bar that was in his neighborhood in Argentina. He didn't want it there. Neither did his church members. It was bringing chaos and darkness into his city. So he put a demolition plan in place.

He and his church members boarded the church bus and parked it right smack dab in the middle of the bar's parking lot. And they commanded that bar be shut down. They didn't pray sweet little, "Oh God, please remove this bar from our neighborhood kind-of-prayer".  No! They told that bar where to go.

Every night for a week they parked their bus in that parking lot and spoke up. After a week, goodness gracious!! Want to know what happened? The bar caught on fire. Right before their very eyes that sucker burned to the ground. Mission accomplished.

Take Away:

1. You have been given authority to move mountains (mountains are things in your life that shouldn't be there).

2. The mountain may not move overnight or even right away. Keep at it and don't give up.

3. You destroy things first in the spirit realm that will eventually be destroyed in the physical realm. It starts in the spirit. Then manifests in the natural.

Speak Up

Don't be afraid to speak to your mountain. You've got things in your life you can move at your command. The authority has been given to you as a believer in Christ. Use it. Stop praying and start commanding!

 

Find Out if Selfishness Fuels Your Prayer Life


To see if you’ve got some kind of selfish yuck motivating your prayers here’s a question for you: What fuels your prayer life?

Pain?
Needs?
Trials?

Try This One:
Selfishness. Your prayers are all about you. No? Maybe? Let's look a little closer at what fuels your prayers by discovering the different "levels" of your prayer life.

Level 1 Prayer Life - Is all about you. You pray for your needs. Not so much for others. These are "What's in it for me prayers." The buck stops with you.

Level 2 Prayer Life - You pray for you + those closest to you. You and your inner circle. A little broader than the first, so that's progress.

Level 3 Prayer Life - You are other-focused. You sincerely love others outside your family and the world around you. You feel the pain of national crisis, your heart breaks for injustice, you look out for the needy and it fuels you to pray. And you do this because you know you can make a difference if you pray for more than just yourself.

Level 4 Prayer Life - You are directed by God to pray for the things that are on his heart. Your heart cries, "Break my heart Lord for the things that break your heart. May I be an instrument of change bringing about your will to the world at large."

Is your prayer life on level 1,2,3, or 4?
The answer will tell you what fuels your prayers. If it's level 1 or 2, don't fret, just try to stretch your prayers beyond yourself a little everyday. No beating yourself up. You're a work in progress. Gradually take the plunge and spend some time praying for others. As you do, you will be changing people's lives...and yours!

Ephesians 6:18 NLT
Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.

To make it easier you can make a list so you can remember people who have needs. I sometimes make 3 to 4 columns in my prayer journal. A column for each prayer level. As I learn about prayers that have been answered for those on my list, I check them off. And that gives me fuel for thankfulness.

So now the question isn't, "What fuels your prayer life?" It's, “What's going to fuel your prayer life?"

The Ultimate Prayer-Play Book to Help You Win In Every Situation


My son's varsity basketball playbook is setting on the couch. So a few minutes ago I moseyed over there to take a look. Flipping though it I discovered a lot of detail. Man! I had no idea the plays he had to memorize!

That playbook's an asset he can refer back to when he needs to know what the coach has called for. In fact, if he and his teammates didn't have that playbook, they wouldn't have made it to regionals. They've become district champs and tonight they play for the title of regional champs. BUT, if those guys don't study that book, learn those plays, and execute them…it's over.

For Every Challenge or Need, God Has Outlined a Play We Can Pray

Ever felt like your prayers were useless? Like even though you prayed, you were beaten? How are you feeling right now? Like you have no chance of victory? Hold up! We too have a playbook. It’s a "Prayer-Play" Book.

With this playbook we have every "prayer-play" for every situation our opponent challenges us with. We just have to know the plays. And knowing the plays is really not as difficult as it seems. You don't even have to memorize EVERY play. You just need to know where to find the plays. Let me show you how easy this is.

1st, Go Grab the Playbook!

Where do you get this playbook? Well, you probably already have one. Yes, I'm talking about the Bible. And if you don't have one, you can get access to it online or even get a Bible app on your Smartphone.

It's never been easier to find specific plays directly from our coach's mouth. God gives us the plays in the Bible. For every problem, every challenge, every type of situation, God has outlined a play we can pray. The Bible is FULL of wisdom and golden nuggets. We just have to play them…or rather pray them!

We are promised success if we execute the plays in God's word.

Josh 1:8 NLT says:

Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.

Where to Find Specific Prayer-Plays for Specific Problems:

Got a concordance? Get it out. Don't have one? No sweat, get to your computer, tablet, or Smartphone and use a search engine. Google, Bing, Yahoo. Whatever your search engine of choice - it will double as your concordance.

1. Simply Search 

I say simply because it's not hard. Type in what you need a scripture for. Example: Need a scripture on hope? Type in: "Scriptures on hope". Need help figuring out how to pray for children? Type in: "Scriptures to pray over kids." It's that simple. Need strength? You know what to do. Either search for “strength” online or go to your concordance (usually at the back of your Bible) and look it up.

2. Make a Prayer-Play Book

Once you find the scripture references, look them up and write them down. Then take each scripture and pray them. You can personalize by inserting the name of the person you are praying for.

For example, this morning I needed an extra dose of energy and stamina. So I grabbed a scripture about strength and inserted myself into the scripture and prayed it like this:

I can do all things through Christ because he strengthens me. (From Philippians 4:13)

A couple weeks ago, a member of this blog community was having a hard time knowing what to do about a situation. I found this scripture and prayed it over her by inserting her name into it. I prayed it out loud like this:

I pray that Patricia will trust in the Lord with all her heart; and that she will not depend on her own understanding. I pray Patricia will seek God's will in all she does, and he will show her which path to take. (From Proverbs 3:5)

This is how I prayed for my family this morning:

I have not stopped thanking God for Ted, Tyler, and Tiffany. I'm asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give them spiritual wisdom and insight so that Ted, Tyler, and Tiffany might grow in their knowledge of God. I pray that their hearts will be flooded with light so that they can understand the confident hope he has given to them. I also pray that Ted, Tyler, and Tiffany will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power. (From Ephesians 1 NLT)

As I'm reading my Bible, I just pop the names of my husband and two teenagers into the scriptures and pray it over them. I pray God's play!

Making a "Prayer-Play Book" is as simple as gathering scriptures concerning your opponent (what your dealing with, or the need in your life) and praying the verses. Do that, and you will have a playbook right from God's mouth.

Search for his plays, pray his plays. and you will score.

When You Don’t Know What to Say When You Pray – Try This!

We've all been there - at a place in our lives not knowing what to say when we pray. Just what do you say to God when your mouth is empty? What do you do when you just can't find the words to discuss your situation with God? Here's a little jump-start. It's a prayer booster. There's four steps. It begins in your imagination, so...

Picture This: 

When you are totally ignorant about how to pray - whether it be little things or big things - you don't worry. You can relax knowing that you have the help of the Holy Spirit and he coaches you on what to say. Even though you are limited in your view, he enlarges the picture. Though you may not have all the facts and details to pray effectively, your partner prays through you. You don't have to figure out your prayers on your own. You rest easy knowing you have help when you pray.

Scripture This:

Romans 8:26 NLT:

And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.

2 Corinthians 6:1 NLT:

As God’s partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then ignore it.

Pray This:

Father, when I am at a loss for words, I am so grateful that your Holy Spirit fills my mouth! I ask the Holy Spirit to help me continuously as I pray. Partner with me and collaborate with me in prayer. I want to be part of your team so that my prayers get me out of any mess, put me on the right path, and make a difference in other people's lives. Thank you, Holy Spirit for helping me pray prayers that make a difference.

Say This:

God's Spirit is right there helping me along. If I don't know how or what to pray, it doesn't matter. He does my praying in and for me, making prayer out of my wordless sighs and my aching groans. He keeps me present before God. That's why I am so sure that every detail of my life is working into something good. With the Holy Spirit as my helper, I am getting better and better in prayer every day!

Making Prayer Sandwiches Can Help You Sleep Better & Start the Next Day Right

How do you assemble a prayer sandwich?

It's as simple as slapping two pieces of bread together with something in the middle. But in this case, we're using a morning prayer and an evening prayer sandwiched together with some really amazing filler in the middle of your day!

1. Laying down the 1st piece of your prayer sandwich:

Pray in the morning as soon as you wake up - thanking God for as many things as you can think of. Your health, your family, your friends, your car, your job. How about the fact that you had a bed to crawl out of? A coffee maker you are making your way toward that's going to give you a piping hot steamy cup of AHHH! Anything you can think of to thank God for is fair game for the first piece of bread in your prayer sandwich.

2. Laying down the meat of your prayer sandwich:

Pray about the events of your day. Your agenda and tasks. This is the meat of your sandwich because it's dealing with the meat of your day. The concerns and needs you have along with prayers for people you know and love. Don't forget the people you will cross paths with who need the love of Jesus.

3. Laying down the last piece of bread that completes the sandwich:

Before you go to bed, thank God for all he did for you today. Thank him for all that you accomplished. Then, give him all of your unsolved problems. Now this is important, because if you successfully unload all of your cares, big and small, dumping them into his lap, you won't need to wake up in the middle of the night worrying about them. You will sleep better - I promise!

When you sandwich your day with prayer - you will sleep better at night and start the next day right.

How to Pray for Bad Attitude Stinkers


Got a bad attitude and want to shed it?
Let me introduce you to a little gem of a verse that we can pray to get rid of our nasty stinky attitudes for good!

When I was a youth pastor many moons ago, I took our youth group out to an area where homeless people lived so we could give them some food, toiletry items, and share the love of God with them. We made a lot of friends and this one guy in particular had a soft spot in my heart. His name was Shorty.

We picked Shorty up Sunday morning to take him to church and because he hadn't had a shower in a few weeks he smelled horrible. His hair was disgusting and his skin was encrusted with dirt. So I took him to our house to let him shower.

Filth Has to Come Off

Since his clothes smelled like something had died in them I searched for some clothes that fit him. I looked through my husband's closet and found an out fit. I was hoping that after he showered, he'd put it on. But as soon as Shorty got cleaned up he put his old, crusty, smelly clothes back on.

I said, Shorty, it's not going to do you any good to clean your body and put dirty clothes back on. I handed him my husband’s clothes and told him he could take the dirty clothes off and put on the clean clothes.

Have You Taken Off Dirty Attitudes & Put Them Back On?

This is what a lot of Christian believers do. Jesus washed us clean of all our sin and we put on a new robe of righteousness. But many people choose to reach back down and pick up old negative attitudes and stinking thinking the same way they did before they got saved. They are clean on the inside but their attitudes make them smell on the outside.

James 1:21 NLT:

So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.

The word "filth" in this verse in the Greek is the word, "raparian". It describes a man whose body and clothes are so dirty that they smell disgusting to everyone near him.

James is describing a believer who is pessimistic, negative, uncooperative, and cynical. They just stink like crap! You've met people like this, I'm sure! Their attitude and disposition is so unpleasant it drives everyone away from them.

But could that also be you? Could it be me? If so, we - you and I, have to make the decision to "get rid of all the filth" - which is not referring to dirty clothes, but the stinking attitudes you and I may have.  We've got to lay down these attitudes and push them so far out of the way that we aren't able to reach down to pick them up again.

Push Away Attitudes Till They're Out of Reach

That's just what I did with Shorty's clothes. I didn't wash them. I tossed them out! I didn't want Shorty to have any chance of picking those filthy, crusty clothes up and putting them back on. And that's what we must do with our filthy attitudes. Let's pray that we push them so far out of the way we will be unable to pick them back up.

You can pray like this:

"God, thank you for washing me with the your Word, and what Jesus did for me on the cross. It makes me brand new. Forgive me for clinging to my old ways of thinking because they stink! Today, help me to drop those old bad attitudes and never pick them back up again. Right now, I let go of old stinking attitudes and ways of thinking. I ask you to help me think and behave in a way that is consistent with being a new creature in Christ. Because that's who I am!"

How Do You Know if YOU Have Bad Attitudes?

  1. Do people gravitate toward you or are they repulsed by your smell? (Hint, hint!)
  2. Do you talk more about negative things or positive things?
  3. Got any attitudes that smell to you? (Get rid of them before others detect the smell!)

See If You Pray Prayers You Don’t Need To Pray


Are your prayers fat? You know…stuffed with words you don't need? Let's see if you've ever prayed something that you didn't need to pray.

Here's a couple examples of "Fat Prayers" that contain words that are utterly useless:

  • Have you ever asked God to heal you when he says that by his stripes you were healed?
  • Have you ever asked God to give you joy, peace, and love when the Word says you already have the fruit of the Spirit - love, joy, and peace?

If God has already promised something to you in his word, then you don't have to ask for it.

Then how do you pray?

Glad you asked!

Let's strip away the fat in your prayers:

1. If the Bible says it's yours, stop asking. 

If I gave you a cup of coffee you'd be pretty silly to ask, "Can I please drink my coffee?" You don't have to ask for something that you've already been given. If God's Word says you can have it, there's no need to ask.

2. Thank God for what he said you have.

When you thank God for what he's already provided through Christ's death on the cross, you are activating your faith. You can't thank God for something unless you believe you really have it, right? So just take God's word for it. Thank him that it's on the way to you, and your faith will grow for what you are believing for.

3. Say What the Bible says you have.

Got a specific need? Ok, grab your Bible concordance or use Google and search for scriptures that address your specific need. For example, if your finances have taken a plunge, look up finances or other words related to it and find scriptures that tell you what you are entitled to as a believer in Christ.

James says, "Above all else, I wish that you prosper and be in good health, even as your soul prospers."

God inspired this scripture - he had James write it on his behalf, so it's safe to say, that's what God wants for you.

Now, say what God has given you. Talk about what the Bible says is yours. This will set it in motion because your faith-filled words have power. You could simply say, "I will prosper and be in good health, even as my soul prospers." There ya go! You are setting yourself up to receive that promise.

To Strip Away the Fat in Your Prayers That Make Them Useless: 

1. Stop asking for what you've already been given.

2. Thank God for what he has given you.

3. Speak about what he has given you.

How to Pray When Fear is Gripping You

If fear has it's grip on you,  let me show you how you can pray those fears away making you more confident, bolder, and gutsy! First you need to stir up your faith so you can begin to see what life would be like without fear...

Picture This:

You are not intimidated by anyone or anything. You have a strong posture and walk with your shoulders back, chest out, and chin high. You have a positive outlook. Nothing rocks your boat. Sleepless nights are a thing of the past. You are no longer paralyzed by fear like you have been in recent years. You feel confident and full of courage.

Scripture This:

Isaiah 41:10:

Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

Psalm 112:7-8:

I am not afraid of receiving bad news; my faith is strong, and I trust in The Lord. I am not worried or afraid.

Proverbs 29:25:

The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever leans on, trusts in, and puts his confidence in the Lord is safe and set on high.

Luke 12:32:

Do not be seized with alarm and struck with fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom!

Pray This:

God, thank you that you are all I need. When I am discouraged, I will pray, and you will help me keep my head held high. Strengthen me and hold me up with your victorious right hand. I want to put my confidence in you, Lord. Keep me safe and set on high so I am not struck with fear. Thank you God, that if I fear you, I have nothing else to fear.

I will not be afraid of receiving bad news. I know God is with me. I will not be seized with alarm or struck with fear. I am no longer discouraged. I will not fear any man. Instead, I will lean on, trust in, and put my confidence in the Lord. It's God's pleasure to give me the kingdom here on earth. I will not be shaken. Fear is no more.

Prayer for Peaceful Family Time During the Holidays


Got a tad bit anxiety about your family having a peaceful time during the holidays? No worries. We've got you covered. In fact, here's how you can cover your family time in prayer during the Christmas season.

Picture this:
You're looking forward to your family getting together for the holidays. There's not one hint of anxiety that rises up within you. Not a trace of angst. There's no fear in your bones. You know God is going to overshadow your family time with his peace. Your heart starts to get excited and do a little happy dance! You walk into a conflict-free environment.

Every room is filled with love. Real love. Not sentimental gush or garbage. Your family holiday time is filled with genuine sweet expressions of kindness. Even those who don't normally ooze with sweetness will be dripping with supernatural goodness. Goodness toward you and goodness toward other family members this year.

Scripture This:
Philippians 1: 9-11 MSG, “So this is my prayer: that your love will flourish and that you will not only love much but well. Learn to love appropriately. You need to use your head and test your feelings so that your love is sincere and intelligent, not sentimental gush. Live a lover's life, circumspect and exemplary, a life Jesus will be proud of: bountiful in fruits from the soul, making Jesus Christ attractive to all, getting everyone involved in the glory and praise of God.”

Isaiah 32:18 NLT, “My people will live in safety, quietly at home. They will be at rest.”

1 Corinthians 13:4 - 8 CEV, “Love is patient and kind, never jealous, boastful, proud, or rude. Love isn't selfish or quick tempered. It doesn't keep a record of wrongs that others do. Love rejoices in the truth, but not in evil. Love is always supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting. Love never fails!”

Pray This:
God, thank you for this Christmas season and what it means to us. I ask you to help each member of my family to flourish with love this holiday season. Let this be the most incredible time we have ever had together.

Help us to not only love much but also well. Show us how to love each other appropriately. I pray we will treat each other with sincere love that is intelligent. And that we will behave in a way that makes Jesus attractive to all members of our family. Even bringing them to know you as their savior if they don't all ready.

Give us patience with each other when we rub each other the wrong way. And to have mercy when we blow it with one another. Enable us to each have the ability to overlook spiteful words when we say something we shouldn't. God help us to release hurts from the past and hurts that may touch us in the future.  Remind us that we are dealing with humans who are imperfect and sometimes do not know how to love each other perfectly.

Give us the ability to love each other the way 1 Corinthians 13 shows us to love. Thank you Lord that there will be safety in our home this Christmas. I am grateful that we will be at rest. And have a wonderful fun-filled family time this holiday season.

Say This: 
I declare that each member of our family treat each other with genuine love, respect, and kindness. There will no trace of conflict, unforgiveness, pride, jealousy, or anger when we are together. Everyone will be able to put their differences aside and love on each other in a genuine way.

I make a decision to be patient and kind, never jealous. I will not be boastful, proud, or rude. I will not be selfish or quick tempered. I won't keep a record or wrongs that my family members do. I will rejoice in the truth, not in evil. My love for them will be supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting.

My love for each member of my family will not fail. I will love them unconditionally and they will do the same for each other and me. This will be the best holiday season we have ever experienced together celebrating the love of the Father and the birth of His son, Jesus.

5 Ways You Can Slap Your Enemies Around With Prayer

 

We all have enemies, right? The Bible warns, “Beware when all men speak well of you!” No matter how loving and friendly you are - you'll always have an enemy just because you live and breathe. I hate to burst your bubble but Satan, well, he just hates you - just cause you're you! And more so, if you have dedicated your life to Christ. That's just the way it is. Let me show you 4 ways you can slap your enemies around with prayer.

1. Recognize your enemy isn't really the person you think he is.

It's not Bob or Jessica that did you wrong. It's not Gabe or Melinda who is spreading rumors and making crude remarks about you. Oh, yes, it's them in the flesh, but you have to look to the being behind their flesh. The devil.

He's the one who puts ideas in people's minds to do you wrong. He's the one who causes selfish desires to rise up in their flesh. So when someone tries to take you down remember, it’s not them, it’s the devil who’s behind them.

Recognize the source.

This person is just a jerk who needs God's help to be a better person. So what can you do? Once you recognize the dark spirit behind the person, forgive them.

They know not what they do. I know that's hard to swallow. They should be smarter than that. They should know what they have done to you. Or maybe they do and they just don't care. Or maybe they know exactly what they have done to you and they meant it.

Either way, recognize the what's behind their behavior. They need God. You can pray they get a big dose of him. Which leads me to the second thing you can do for your critics. Pray for them.

2. Pray for your enemy

Why? Because you were told to. Not by me. I'm just reminding you what Jesus said to do in the Bible. Here's what a couple of scriptures have to say about it:

Matthew 5:44 says, But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. ...If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that?

Romans 12:14 says: Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them.

Man, I wish those verses weren't in the Bible. But they are - and for good reason. Pray for those who mistreat you and it will end up sweetening your deal. How, because you will be helping them turn over a new leaf. Why the heck should you care? Cause deep down inside, you really do want to make a difference in people's lives, don't ya?

Here's your chance! Oh yeah, and here’s why it’s a deal sweetener for you -- what goes around comes around. You will be reaping what you sow. So on that topic - if you've ever been a jerk to someone else, they just might end up praying for you too! Win-win!

3. Forgive your enemy.

Why forgive them when they don't deserve it? Because you don't deserve it either. Huh? Yeah, you might want to read that again. You don't deserve to be forgiven either. But you are. Jesus forgave you and your crud even before you said yes to him (Romans 3:10). So do the same for your enemy. It will end up setting you free.

If you think you’re sticking it to them by not forgiving them, you’re only sticking it to yourself. Unforgiveness is one of the top reasons people fall into depression, stress related disease, and a whole bunch of other ailments. So don't waste your time holding a grudge. It only hurts you.

Ephesisans 4:32 says, ...be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

If you’re having a tough time forgiving, then pray and ask God to help you forgive. He will!

4. Love them.

I know this is the craziest idea of all right?! And the toughest. What you really want to do is get back at them. But, be the bigger person. Be the lover and you will win. Love conquers all.

John 13:34, 35 says, So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.

If it's hard to love them up close then love them from a distance. You will be amazed how love can melt their heart of stone and turn them around. If you can love them you may soon enough find them in your corner. Cause that’s just how love works!

5. Instead of Slapping Them, Let God Slap a Blessing on You!

I Peter 3:9 says, Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will bless you for it.

Did someone say blessing? Blessed when I'm messed with? Yep. It's coming if you handle it right.

I Peter 3:12 says, The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers.

Nice motivation, huh?

I Peter 3:16 says, Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ. Remember, it is better to suffer for doing good, if that is what God wants, than to suffer for doing wrong!

I know you're not keen on suffering, but keep the end in mind. Let God slap a blessing on you.

Prayer for You to See Yourself Successful Like God Sees You

 

How do you see yourself? Success or Failure? Does this contradict what God sees? God sees you as royalty. You may not feel like a king or queen today, but it's in you!

Let's look at how you can pray that you see yourself in a new way today. Put aside the lowly, insecure feelings that try to get you down. Let's pray that you begin to see yourself like royalty and reign like a king!

You've got something that the president and elected officials don't have. Ability to reign all of your days. That's right. Elected officials just get a 4-year term or maybe a 2-year term. You? You get to reign in life forever.

Romans 5:17b says, ...those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ! NIV

The word reign means: Royal authority; dominion; sway or influence of one resembling a monarch. (Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary)

The scripture above talks about reigning in life. That's forever. Not until the next election. Not until you no longer feel on top. No. You get to reign forever as long as you continue to believe that Jesus Christ put you in a position of power and success.

Why Your Qualifications Don't Matter

You'd think it has to do with your qualifications, or your most excellent ways. Nope. Not at all. You receive this position of power and success - reigning over all life’s difficulties and circumstances simply because you accept that Jesus paid for it.

You may have had so many unfortunate things happen to you in life that you can barely walk with your head held high. It might be tough just to see yourself as a child of God, yet I'm encouraging you to see yourself today as royalty.

How can you change your view?
Remember it's not about you. It's all about Christ. You are seated with him in heavenly places.

Ephesians 2:6-10 says:
For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus. God saved you by his a grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

His death means you reign. What Christ did on the cross gives you access to the seat of power. So take it, it's yours. Start reigning today successfully. Pray like this and you'll be on your way to ruling and reigning like a king...

Prayer:
God, thank you that when I don't feel like enough and when I don't see myself with incredible value, you do. God, help me to see myself seated with Christ in heavenly realms. I am a masterpiece, not because of anything I have accomplished, but because Christ paid for me to become a new creation full of worth and success. When I am down on myself, remind me of who I am in Christ. Right now I reject any thoughts that I am not loved, not valued, or not important. Help me to keep my head held high. Thank you for empowering me to reign over life's difficulties because of what Christ has given me. I will reign in life and be successful!

Your Prayer-Release Valve for Financial Pressure

 

Have you ever been in the squeeze of financial pressure and stress? Maybe you're there now. If so, you're not alone. There are millions of people right now in tight financial spots.

The good news is you, as a believer, have a rescuer. His name is Jesus. And he offers you relief from your financial troubles. Take in these scriptures so they will encourage you and then I'll show you how to pray them.

READ IT:

Deuteronomy 8:18 says, But you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth. NKJV

Luke 6:38 says,  Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back. NLT

Philippians 4:19 says, And my God will liberally supply (fill to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. AMP

There are 3 ways the Bible says you will be able to get wealth:

  1. You will create it yourself because God gives you the ability and power to get it. (Deut 8:18 above)
  2. People will give you money when you have been giving to others. (Luke 6:38 above)
  3. God will supply you with the money you need because Christ paid the price for it.

Based on these scriptures, you have 3 ways for money to come to you. So let's pray these scriptures over your financial situation. 

PRAY IT:

"God, you said in your word that you would give me the power to create wealth so I ask you in advance to empower me to make a good living. Give me wisdom so I know how to make an abundant income. I am grateful that I have had opportunity to give to others and because of that others are going to give to me. Your word says you, God, will be my supplier. I will not lack because you have everything I need and I know at the right time, you will put it in my hands. I ask you to meet all of my needs according to your riches that I have in Christ."

Now that you have read about it, let's speak it. Declare what God is going to do for you because it's by hearing, that your faith will increase. When you speak the blessings of God over your life, you will increase your belief and you will be putting it in motion.

SPEAK IT:

"My God will meet all of my needs according to his riches in Christ Jesus. I will not lack. God is giving me ideas on how to make money. God is opening doors for me that no man can shut. God is giving me opportunities to increase financially and professionally that will blow my mind! I trust in God, my source. When I give to others, God positions others to give to me. I will have everything I need at the time I need it. I am blessed to be a blessing. I am thankful that God is meeting all of my financial needs."

NOW BELIEVE IT!

Why Spiritual Warfare Doesn’t Work & What to Do Instead

 

You want to win the battle over the enemy and the forces of darkness, but let me tell you why spiritual warfare, as some know, doesn't work. And let me show you a better way. This is the way Paul and the disciples battled the enemy that cleared the air and made things happen in the spirit realm. And it will work for you too.

First, let me start with this little story that connects to how most people do spiritual warfare. I was watching the Dr. Oz show a couple of weeks ago. Dr. Oz had his dentist on as a guest. Yes, his own personal dentist! This expert on oral care proceeded to tell the audience and viewers we need to brush for 2 minutes at least twice a day. If you brush less than 2 minutes you will be creating movement but not removing all of the plaque and bacteria.

2 Minutes! Yes, 2 LONG minutes. I don't know about you, but I don't have the time nor the patience to stand there brushing my teeth for 2 minutes. But this was what he recommended. Why? Because it worked.

So, the next day, I stood at the sink for 2, count em 2, agonizing minutes. It was the most time-consuming tooth brushing I had ever experienced. I kept wondering, "How much longer can I hold out here?"

I turned on the TV. I whipped out my iPod. I tried all kinds of ways to pass the time. Time doing something I thought I was doing the right way all along. But now I had been educated. Now I knew the truth and I had no excuse.

And guess what? Now I have better results. After a 2-minute brushing my teeth really did feel cleaner. It was more effective. Thank goodness I listened to the expert.

How often do we do the same thing with spiritual warfare? Yeah, stick with me here. A lot of us have been falsely taught to go about it the wrong way. Thinking all along we are making a big dent in the spirit realm by praying up a storm.

Brushing the enemy away doesn't happen by speaking to the powers of darkness and demanding they move out of our town, out of our church, or out of the way of revival in people's lives.

Doing this is like trying to forcefully clean your teeth in 30 seconds expecting to brush away all the grime. You can't brush away spiritual powers by binding a spiritual power or by spending an enormous amount of time in prayer. Skeptical? Let's dig deeper.

Take a look at all of the New Testament scriptures. You will find:

  1. Jesus never sent his disciples out to do spiritual warfare.
  2. Paul never suggested his readers do spiritual warfare.

Yes, there are satanic and demonic powers in the air. The Bible clearly states this. But it doesn't say that the way to fight them is to pray up a storm.

Want to know what kind of Spiritual Warfare works?

The Bible says the way to fight is to take every thought captive with the Word of God.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 says, We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ. NLT

The weapons that 2 Corinthians 10: 3-5 talk about are the weapons in our mind. That's where the spiritual war is located. The wrestling is in our thoughts and the thoughts that other's have. The battleground is where the thoughts are that keep people from knowing the truth of God’s Word.

Ephesians 6:11-17: Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. NLT

Since the fight is against thoughts, then the weapon has to correct thoughts. The only weapons that can correct wrong thoughts are right thoughts. And right thoughts come from God's Word.

The weapon is the Word. Bringing truth to people's minds is spiritual warfare that makes impact. It's helping them to exchange the evil thoughts Satan injects into their minds with God's thoughts.

The war is won when a person takes the right thought captive. Winning is determined by which thought - Satan's or God's – will be believed and acted upon.

Which thoughts do you and others have more faith in - God or Satan's? The answer will determine which spiritual force wins.

Binding a specific demonic power seems like it would work, but that's not the model scripture gives us. The way to win the spiritual war is to teach people the truth. You can pray all you want that this force will move or that force will move. But a better prayer would be to ask God to send someone to show them the truth and that their heart be opened to it. Better yet, you step out and share the truth with those who you're trying to do battle for.

As they begin to believe the truth and live by that truth, they will be set free and the battle in the spirit realm will be won. Demons bow to the Word of God, that’s powerful!

So then, the next time you want to engage in spiritual warfare, here's what will brush the devil away:

1. If it's spiritual warfare targeted toward you: Trade the enemy's thoughts in your mind for God's thoughts. Take every thought captive and you will break free and win the spiritual war. The truth will set you free.

2. If it's spiritual warfare targeted toward others: Introduce them to the truth of God's word. Tell people the story of Jesus and what he did for them on the cross. Show them what scripture says about their situation so they can think God's thoughts not what the enemy feeds them.

When this happens you and others will be set free. Yes, this takes longer than just praying. And yes, it means more work. But, you'll have a lot more impact in the spiritual realm if you do it right.

Fighting thoughts with the Word is spiritual warfare that stops the enemy dead in his tracks and it will work - that's what you do instead!

Father, shape the thoughts of our nation. May Americans measure what each politian stands for by the standard of God's word. I declare that God's word will continue to grow and increase just as it did in Acts12:24.

May we as a nation seek you for wisdom and guidance. So that when we step into our voting booths on November 6 we will vote God's will for our nation. That every American will take their responsibility to vote seriously. They will inform themselves about the issues and their choices on the ballots. That they will get down to their polling locations and contribute by casting their vote. I ask that wisdom enter the minds of every US citizen and they will be filled with knowledge according to Proverbs 2:10 and it will govern the way they vote.


God, your Word says you will instruct me and teach me about the direction I should go. You will advise me and watch over me (Psalm 32:8). So as I slip into my voting booth on Election Day, show me what I should do. Counsel me so I make the right choices with my vote.


Prayer for Right Placement of Each Candidate

I pray that each candidate will handle themselves respectfully and with integrity. That upright people will take government positions. These will be men and women of integrity, blameless, and righteous in your sight. I declare any one with a heart of wickedness will be cut out of government. Those who twist their words and lie will not have a place of authority in America. Those with a heart of dissension and evil will be rooted out and booted out (Proverbs 2).


I declare that God's will be done on earth as it is in heaven in the political arena. I declare this in Jesus Name. Amen.

I bought a new razor. Took it out of the wrapper. Jumped in the shower. Removed the guard over the blade, popped it in the handle and tried to use it. I say tried, because the stinking thing wouldn't work. I shaved one leg but still had stubble. What was the deal?

This was a brand new razor. I tried the razor one more time. Rinsed the remaining shaving cream off my leg. Still stubble. Ok, now I'm miffed, and feeling like I wasted my money. And worse, I have no razor with which to get a nice clean shave.

I jumped out of the shower, and grabbed the packaging that I had tossed in the trash so I could return it. When I looked at the directions on the packaging I noticed I had not put the blade on the handle correctly. It was upside down.

No wonder it wouldn't work. I was the one that wasn't working right. I didn't follow the package instructions.

I learned a lesson that day. Don't blame the creator of a product if you aren't following the directions. I didn't use the razor the way it was designed to be used; yet I was still expecting the razor to give me the results I wanted. And I was blaming the razor!

Know what? Sometimes we do this with prayer.

Many of us don't follow God's directions when we pray yet when prayer doesn't work, we blame God.

Fact: There are laws God put in place that govern what he will do for you and I. God isn't going to do what he told us to do.

And we wonder what the problem is. The problem is us. You. Me. We just don't do what we need to do to make things happen. Then we secretly think God failed us. We get bitter and blame him for not answering our prayer.

God is good. He wants to bless you beyond measure. But he won't violate the laws he has already put in place to give you what you need. You need to follow the instructions he has issued. Don't get upset with him if you know the cure but refuse to follow the treatment.

The Biggest Reason God Isn't Answering Your Prayers Could Be This:

You're not following his directions concerning what you need.

5 Examples of How You May Not Be Following His Directions When Praying:

1. Asking God to make the devil leave you alone.

James 4:7 says, Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. NLT

He told you how to do it - resist him. God doesn't have to lay a finger. He's already intervened. Now you do your part. Tell the devil you're not interested in what he has to say. Resist him.

2. Asking God to heal people. He commanded you to go heal the sick.

Matt 10:8 says, Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out demons. NLT

Go lay hands on them and command their healing to take place. You don't have to ask.

3. Asking God for peace when he tells you how to get it.

Isa 26:3 says, You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! NLT

Fix your thoughts on God and give him your trust and peace will be yours.

John 14:27a says, I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart.

Christ said he's already given you peace. No need to pray it - take it.

4. Asking God for the power to receive what his Word says you already have.

Isaiah 54:17 says, No weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you.

Psalms 8:6 says, You gave them charge of everything you made, putting all things under their authority.

You don't have to ask for the blessings God's already promised you. Take your God given authority and tell your circumstances to line up with what God's Word says they should do.

5. Praying for relief yet you continue doing the very thing that causes your problem.

Galatians 6:7 says, Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant.

Don't expect financial prosperity if you are blowing your money on grown up toys and running up your credit card debt on things you don’t need. Or don't expect God to heal you of lung disease if you keep smoking and refuse to stop. Don’t pray for God to make you all buff and muscly if you won’t work out. You get the picture. Sow what you want to reap.

You got this. Go do it. Follow God's directions instead of your own and you'll see more prayers answered.

Prayers on Steroids – Here’s the Secret Sauce to Powerful Prayer

I want to share with you how you can have a powerful prayer life on steroids. Not everyone who prays gets the results they want because they don't go about it the right way. So I'm going to let you in on a secret that will get you results when you pray. You’re going to gain some muscle in your prayer life!

Though steroids are a drug that can be misused, the effects are incredible when used the right way. Steroids pump a person up, increase their strength and give them an incredible advantage.

If you grab this information and apply it, it will be like your prayers are on steroids. You will generate supercharged prayers that are strong and give you an incredible advantage in life.

As we know, not every prayer works the way we think it should. So let's figure out why. The Bible has a short little verse in James that goes like this:

“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” (James 5:16 NIV)

Powerful, huh? Not always. Sometimes our prayers go flat because we pray for something that isn't God's will. A prayer outside of God's will is not effective. Let me give you a couple of examples.

A lot of times people pray prayers that are based on their emotions. That's dangerous, because our emotions are sometimes whacked! You know how it is when someone has cheated you, wronged you, or hurt you. Gosh, praying about a situation like that can be tricky.

Your flesh wants to pray that God will hunt that person down and smack them upside the head. But what you really should ask God to do is to show that joker their faults and bring them to apologize and change their ways. It might even be good to ask God to help you see if you had any wrong in the matter.

The Bible says to pray for our enemies and to bless them. Bless who? Our enemies. Are you out of your mind?! You would think so, unless you knew better. That's not how most people would deal with their enemies, but that's why most people don't have their enemies turn into friends.

The key to praying prayers on steroids is to pray God's will.

Pray for what God wants - not what you want. This is to your advantage if you can wrap your head around it.

God has an edge over you because he knows way more than you do! If you can get to a place where you trust what he wants is better for you than what you want - look out! He is ready to unload a truck-full of answered prayer on you.

So the big question is…How do you know God's will so that you supercharge your prayers with it?

You have got to get inside God's head!

That sounds a bit scary! And even intimidating. But it's not that hard. God wants to grant you access to his thoughts. That is why he gave you his thoughts on paper. It's the Bible; it’s God's Word.

So, how do you get inside God’s head? You get inside his word.

His word prepares our hearts to pray powerful and effective prayers. God’s word teaches us what to ask for. If you want to know God's will, you have to get in his word, so his thoughts get inside you.

And when his thoughts get inside you, you will begin to think like he does. And when you think like he does, you will know how to pray his will.

God's Word Trains Us to Pray

As you read the Bible every day, little by little your thoughts change. You quit thinking like the rest of the world and you begin to think more and more like God.

“...be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].” Romans 12:2 (AMP)

So did you catch that last part? It says you will be able to prove what the will of God is…what is acceptable and perfect in God's sight for you. How? By renewing your mind with God's word.

The Bible mentions Joshua who was faced with big challenges. It was his job to get the Israelites into the Promised Land. Basically, God told Joshua that the only way he would be successful is if he got in His word. Look how God unwrapped it here for Joshua in the Bible:

“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” Joshua 1:8 (NLT).

The Word of God instructs us. It’s full of wisdom from God above. And if you really believe God is smarter than you are or ever could be you're going to want to tap into that knowledge.

When you do, you will become smarter in how you pray. The more you are in God's Word, the more your mind will be thinking like his, and the more your prayers will reflect his heart and will. Then guess what? The more your prayers will be answered.

So here's the secret sauce to powerful prayer:

Make time each day to read God’s Word, the Bible, so you can know how God thinks. His Word will begin shaping your prayers and it will be as if your prayers are on steroids!

The Biggest Thing That Kills Your Prayers & How to Get Rid of It Immediately

You've probably killed some of your prayers over your lifetime. I know I have! So what's the biggest thing that kills your prayers & how are you supposed to get rid of it?

Without a doubt..it's doubt!

We want to believe God's blessings.

But we don't.

How messed up is that?!

We sing about believing in the blessings and favor of God, but when it gets down to the nitty gritty, we don't believe all the way.

Sometimes the reason we don't believe all the way is because we've experienced delay.

But hey, even Jesus had to wait sometimes for his prayers to be answered. Who says it always comes immediately?

When Jesus spoke to the fig tree (Matthew 21:20) and told it to die - it didn't happen right away. Not that moment. Not 5 minutes later. Not 1 hour later. Nope. It wasn't even that night. It was the next day! That's when Peter came waltzing by and saw the results of Jesus' prayer.

Matthew 11:20

20 The next morning as Jesus was passing by with his followers, they saw the fig tree dry and dead, even to the roots.21 Peter remembered the tree and said to Jesus, "Teacher, look! The fig tree you cursed is dry and dead!"

Prayers aren't always answered instantly. I love what Laura, one of my blog readers said, "God doesn't put a done-meter on the outside of a sick person". But that doesn't mean prayer isn't working.

The tough thing is that waiting can cause us to doubt. But that's the very thing that will stop your payer from being answered.

Jesus said, speak to the mountain…if you believe in your heart and not doubt, the mountain will move.

Matthew 11:22

Jesus answered, "Have faith in God. I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, 'Go, fall into the sea.' And if you have no doubts in your mind and believe that what you say will happen, God will do it for you. So I tell you to believe that you have received the things you ask for in prayer, and God will give them to you. (NCV)

Could it be any clearer? Don't let the waiting cause you to doubt. Waiting is sometimes necessary. Only God knows why. But if Jesus had to wait, then sometimes we will too. Here's a little action plan:

  • Believe when you pray
  • Keep believing
  • Keep believing some more
  • Don't let delay cause doubt
  • Hang in there till it it happens

That's how it works. If it's good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for us. 

Look forward to the day when you come waltzing by the thing you spoke to and see that it did what you told it to do! Get rid of doubt so it doesn't kill your prayer.

3 Reasons Praying Out Loud Gets the Enemy Off Your Back

 

Do most of your prayers take place inside your head? If you're like me, I have a running conversation with God all day long and a lot of it takes place inside my mind via my thoughts. And while that's good, there are reasons why praying out loud will get the enemy off your back. Let me show you why this is so powerful.

It's sort of like this... If I simply have loving thoughts about my husband Ted, all day long but never share them with him out loud - he would have no idea how much I love him. Ted obviously can't read my mind. Only God can. The enemy has the same disadvantage and that's why praying out loud is important.

Here's Why it Gets Him Off Your Back:

1. They Enemy Can't Get Inside Your Head

Satan can send thoughts your way, but he doesn't know what you're thinking. Since he's not omnipotent like God, he can only go by what he sees you doing. He has no super-powers in your mind. That's why he studies your behavior and how you respond to things. Then he tries his influence by getting you to think incorrectly.

Since he can't get inside your head, praying outloud let's him in on your thoughts. And if they are Godly thoughts filled with the truth of God's Word - you have amunition against him and he knows it.

2. The Enemy Needs to Know Where You Stand On an Issue

Letting the enemy know where you stand is important so he knows you're not going to lean over into his camp. That's why you need to speak out loud what you believe. You get the upper hand when you audiably say what you are believing.

When you continually take a stand on something over and over and over again, he is going to back off. Show him you're not going to budge!

3. Praying Out Loud Solidifies Your Stand in Your Own Mind

After you say something out loud - it's out there! It makes you accountable. You will most likely stick with it because you made a public declaration. This is powerful. It's a win for you and a loss for him!

James 4:7b ...Stand against the devil and the devil will run from you.

Audible Ways to Take a Stand & Get the Enemy Off Your Back:

  • Thank God for your salvation (So the enemy knows you know who you are in Christ)
  • Declare God's goodness (So he knows you know it's God who is good to you)
  • Thank God for being your provider (So the enemy knows you don't take the credit for what you have)
  • Thank God for giving you success (So the enemy knows you give God glory for what He does through you)
  • Declare God is giving you wisdom (So the enemy knows you are seeking God for His plan not your own)
  • Worship God out loud (So the enemy knows you honor God above all else in your life)

Praying out loud gives you an enormous butt-kicking advantage! It lets the devil know what you believe and where you stand. So go for it! Pray out loud and you will make the enemy back off and yes, give 'em a good butt kicking!

 

 

How You Might Be Reversing the Prayers You’ve Been Praying in Faith

Have you ever found yourself saying the exact opposite of what you have been praying? Whoa Nelly! How can that be? Let me show you how negative statements can reverse the prayers you have been pleading to have answered.

One time when I was scheduled to speak at a conference I got the worst cold I can ever remember. I had so much snot bubbling out of my nose; it was red from constant wiping.

My head hurt. My body ached. For 3 days I couldn't breathe without doing so through my mouth. How was I supposed to speak for 45 minutes to a conference room full of people with my nose plugged to capacity?

I woke up that morning complaining. That's right. I was sick and I wanted God to know it. (As if he was unaware!) I said, "God, why would you allow me to be so sick the day I am scheduled to speak? I feel awful!" Know what happened? I felt worse and my body weakened. I wanted to go back to bed.

How Things Changed

Thankfully, as I was getting ready a verse of Scripture came to mind. It was Philippians 4:13 that says, "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." So I said it out loud. Then I said, "My body is stronger and I am getting better."

Immediately I started to straighten up. Saying those words made my body come into agreement with what I was saying. I felt stronger. I felt better. I was determined to quit complaining which would have undermined my prayer. Had I kept saying how bad I felt, my body would have come into agreement with that instead.

Personal Prayer Sabotage

Sometimes we sabotage our own prayers by speaking the opposite of what we are praying. Can fresh water and salt water come out of the same spout? No! Negative statements that are opposite of what we are praying reverse what we are asking God to do.

For example, you pray something like this with great faith, "God, please heal my body." You even thank him for it. But within hours you're down at the coffee shop telling a friend, "Every day I get up my back is worse than the day before. My back will never get better.”

You're right!

You're back will never get better. Why? Because you are telling it what state to be in. Look, if you want to see your back pain go away, quit inviting it to stay.

You're going to get what you say. Think that's crazy? Jesus didn't. He told us to speak to the mountain and tell it to move. Paul in the Bible was gutsy too when he said, "Call things which are not as though they were." (Romans 4:17)

This wasn't my idea. This is God's. I'm just smart enough to believe it. Actually...I've seen it.

Truly I tell you, whoever says to this mountain, Be lifted up and thrown into the sea! and does not doubt at all in his heart but believes that what he says will take place, it will be done for him. (Mark 11:23 AMP) (Underlining mine!)

A word out of your mouth may seem of no account, but it can accomplish nearly anything--or destroy it! (James 3:5 MSG)

You know people who want to loose weight right? I bet you also know people who want to loose weight and they let comments fly out of their mouth like, "I'm so fat!" Yikes! They're telling their body what it will be. Until they say, "I am loosing weight." they most likely won't. Their circumstances are going to line up with what they tell them to.

Or someone says, "I will never be able to afford a nice car or house." Yep. They won't. Why? Because they've declared it. Their words have creative power. And they will subconsciously believe what they say and they will act in ways that will bring about those results.

You will have what you speak.

Those who are careful about what they say protect their lives, but whoever speaks without thinking will be ruined. (Proverbs 13:3 NCV)

There is no greater way to ruin your life than speaking just anything that comes to your mind.

So here's a prayer tip: If you are trying to get a situation to line up with what you are praying - quit saying the opposite of what you want. Stop saying the opposite of what you are praying and believing. Your words have power. Circumstances are activated by what you speak.

Stop reversing your prayers with negative statements. Speak what you want, not what you have, and watch it take shape!

Prayers Without Emotion Are Just as Powerful

Ever thought that your prayer had to be emotional to be effective?

I admit it feels good to have emotions wash over me when I am spending time with God. Sometimes I am moved to tears as I pour out my heart. But at other times I have prayed almost completely void of emotion.

Many times I've had a blank stare piercing the heavens with no feeling behind it. I didn't feel like I could feel God's presence and I wondered if something was terribly wrong. Can you relate? Have you ever prayed this way?

James 5:16 says:

The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. (NKJV)

You might read this scripture and think you have "work up" your emotions for your prayer to pack power. But packing a punch in the spirit realm has more to do with your faith than it does your emotions.

Emotional Response is Not An Indicator of Faith

The mistake we sometimes make is measuring our prayer time by our emotional response. Know what? There will be times you pray with more emotion than others and it has more to do with your mental, physical, and emotional state than it does your prayer.

I'm sure you'll agree with me, some days you could cry buckets over a cup of spilled coffee. Other days, you take it in stride. Some days a car cutting you off on the highway can evoke strong emotions. And hopefully not strong words or hand gestures! Other days, you just let it roll off your back.

Factors Impacting Your Emotions When Praying:

  • How much sleep you've been getting
  • How much stress you are under
  • If you are not feeling well or are in pain
  • If you have a headache
  • Your personality and temperament
  • Your upbringing (some people were raised in a very non-emotional environment)

Our prayers do not hinge on feelings. They hinge on faith. The Bible doesn't say, "without feelings it is impossible to please God." NO! It says, "without faith, it is impossible to please God."

While a fervent passionate prayer avails much, the Bible doesn't say passionate prayers are the only ones that work with God. This verse is just stating that when you are in a fervent prayer mode - it reaches the heavens. This isn't the only kind of prayer that works. Other kinds of prayer do too. So don't feel bad if your prayers aren't drenched with emotion, soaked with tears, and unique facial contortions.

Pray in faith - and your prayer will be just as powerful!

The Key to Growing Miracles with Your Prayers

"How many of you need a miracle in your life?  Raise your hand."  As my pastor said these words at City of Life's Night of Visitation, the atmosphere was so full of faith it was palpable.  My eyes involuntarily filled with tears.  How many times had I stood there, raised my hand when asked this same question, and asked God for my miracle?  Fifty?  One hundred?  Five hundred?  Countless times.

We were gathered together that night to worship God.  To spend an entire service singing, praising, and honoring Him. So many times I had stood there asking for my miracle. I hadn't felt like praising Him.  The situation seemed too dark for praise.  Yet that night, as the tears welled up, I was filled with thankfulness. A joy unlike anything I'd felt in a long time.

My Miracle

For the first time in a long, long time, I didn't need a miracle.  God had answered my prayer. The Sunday prior, in a church over 1,000 miles away something changed. My dad stood in his pulpit and invited those who were far away from God to return to Him.  He asked those who needed God to stand. He wanted to pray with them for salvation.  Among those who stood - my brother.  My miracle.

Here's all I understand about answered prayer: we ask, God answers.  Sometimes He answers immediately; sometimes it takes months, years, decades.  This answer took over a decade to come.

There were times I grew weary praying for my brother's salvation. Times when I was the only one serving God in my family.  Times when, after talking to him and "taking the temperature" of his heart toward God, it seemed he was moving farther away from than closer to Him.

All I knew was God's will - that my entire family be saved (Acts 16:31).  There's such a beautiful rest we can enter into when we want the same thing that God wants.  God wants it, so we say "let your will be done, Lord" and know that the salvation of our family members is part of that package.

Dreams Do Come True

Last night I stood at the same place. And instead of asking for a miracle, I rejoiced.  I had finally received the thing that I had longed for.  I can only compare receiving an answer to prayer to Psalm 126. David describes it like being in a dream:

When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion,

we were like those who dreamed.

Our mouths were filled with laughter,

our tongues with songs of joy.

Then it was said among the nations,

“The Lord has done great things for them.”

The Lord has done great things for us,

and we are filled with joy.

Restore our fortunes, Lord,

like streams in the Negev.

Those who sow with tears

will reap with songs of joy.

Those who go out weeping,

carrying seed to sow,

will return with songs of joy,

carrying sheaves with them.

Your Prayer is a Seed

Every prayer you pray is a seed sown.  Many times our prayers are accompanied by tears of sorrow, tears of compassion, tears of distress.  Many times, these tears last for a long, long time.  Yet when you persist in prayer, you know that each prayer is a seed in the ground.

You can be certain that you WILL return to the place that you've planted those seeds of prayer, and the harvest you've prayed for will be abundant.  That's your miracle.  The tears pay off as your arms are so full of harvest that you can hardly hold it all.

My encouragement to you:  stay in the place of prayer.  When you don't think you have one more prayer in you for a specific person or situation, pray again.  Scrape together your faith and ask God for what's pressing on your heart just one more time.

I promise, He will answer.  You WILL receive your miracle.

Why Doesn’t Jesus Heal Today Like He Did in the Bible? He Does!

I hear people ask from time to time, "Why doesn't Jesus heal people today like he did in the Bible?"

If you've ever wondered...he does! You just don't always hear about it. Listen to this story from a lady named Patty Wallace that proves my point.

Patty's Story

Two years ago Patty had muscular dystrophy. I say had because on Sunday morning April 18th, 2010, at 7am that all changed. That Sunday morning Jesus was up to his old tricks. I say that tongue and cheek because some wonder if he's still in the miracle working business. This proves he is.

Patty woke up to go to the restroom because she was sick. She thought she was coming down with a virus of some sort. She went back to bed and her husband brought her a washcloth. As she was wiping her face she was praying, asking God to heal her of the muscular dystrophy. What happened next was amazing.

Patty said that Jesus got right in her face, called her by name, and said: "Patricia Diane, how many times have you asked me to heal you? You ARE healed in my name. Get up and walk." Used to limping and dragging her right leg from the disease, she sat up.  God told her to get up and out of bed so she walked to the bathroom where her husband was cleaning up her mess. This time her walk was without a limp. She was no longer dragging her leg. And her seizures were no more.

What happened?

Jesus healed her. Just like he did for the people we read about in the Bible.
After Jesus returned, he walked along Lake Galilee and then climbed a mountain and took his place, ready to receive visitors. They came, tons of them, bringing along the paraplegic, the blind, the maimed, the mute—all sorts of people in need—and more or less threw them down at Jesus' feet to see what he would do with them. He healed them. When the people saw the mutes speaking, the maimed healthy, the paraplegics walking around, the blind looking around, they were astonished and let everyone know that God was blazingly alive among them. Matthew 15:30 (The Message)
What kind of miracle do you need? You could be next. Jesus does still heal today like he did in the Bible.

With God on my side, how can I lose? If God didn't hesitate to put everything on the line for me, embracing my condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn't gladly and freely do for me? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God's chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for me—who was raised to life for me! —Is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for me.

No one is going to be able to drive a wedge between me and Christ's love for me. There is no way! You Were Meant to be A Prayer Hero – Here’s How

Everyone wants to be a hero. You do too. Don't try to shrug it off. It's in your nature. You were made that way. If you haven't made a difference in someone's life lately, I'm here to give you a kick in pants. Let me show you how making someone your Prayer Project can change their life and yours.

My First Prayer Project

I met Ms. Sweet in the 70's, when I was in middle school. She was my PE teacher. The first time I laid eyes on her, I thought, "This woman is a whack job!" She had the kind of voice you couldn’t get out of your head. She grunted when she talked. Or maybe barked would be a better description of her tone. She smelled like a chimney and her face was etched with deep scars from her past. I liked her--even though I could tell her life was a mess! She had gusto and she had spunk. I could tell she was trying to keep the glimmer in her eye, but she didn't know how. This lady made her wacky way into my heart.

Out on the softball field I'd pray, "God get a hold of Ms. Sweet's heart. Help her to find you. End her pain. God, help her to know that life is better with you in it." Everyday as I fielded balls and watched her yell and scream from the dugout, I'd secretly pray that someday she'd yell and scream out to God. I didn't let up. Every single day this little 6th grader prayed that God would transform her PE teacher's life.

Fast-forward to decades later, it's Sunday morning. I'm a pastor sitting on the stage at church. The service begins. I glance out at the crowd and I about fall out of my chair. Who did I see? Ms. Sweet! Not only was she in church, but she was raising her hands in worship. Smiling. Living. Enjoying. God answered my 6th grade prayer that had been hanging out there for decades. Ms. Sweet let God radically change her life. Prayer project accomplished!

Prayer Projects

What's a prayer project? Something that you decide you’re going to take on and change. Whether it is a person or a situation, you can be a change agent by stepping into prayer-hero mode!

See a need? Decide to take it on as a prayer project.

Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • When you see someone or a situation in need, ask yourself what needs to change here for them or for this situation?
  • Pray for that person/or need regularly.
  • Don't stop praying for this until the project is complete and your prayers have made a difference.

Where Do Ideas for Prayer Projects Come From?

Look around. All you have to do is open your eyes. As you begin to think like a prayer hero, you'll notice that ideas can come from anywhere. When you go to work, school, the store, or poking around on Facebook, pay attention to the way people move around and operate. Check the look on their faces; listen for the tone in their voices. Do they seem stressed? Impatient? Overwhelmed? Fearful? Sickly?

While thinking like this, you'll notice opportunities for prayer projects all around you. Get busy!

You have a world around you to change with your prayers. There's a hero inside of you waiting to make a difference. It's time. Go for it!

"God I need a break! I'm tired and worn out. I come to you because you said that if I did, you would give me relief. Show me how to take a real rest. As I spend time with you, recharge my batteries. Melt away my stress. Fill me with peace that will overshadow my circumstances. Thank you Jesus, that you care and you are right there!" Amen.

Go to Jesus so you can get-a-way!

Why Pray When God Already Knows What You Need?

 

Are you thinking sometimes God plays dumb when you are obviously in need and he does nothing about it? He sees, right? The all-knowing God certainly knows when there is lack on your horizon. Then why doesn't he do something without your pressing him with requests? Let me give you a little glimpse into a father's heart...

I remember one time when I was a kid I had a pair of sneakers that were old and holes started appearing near the toes. I would purposely look down at my old shoes while my dad was looking. My hope of course, was that he too, would look down and notice my worn out shoes. He did. But he never said a peep about them. He let me wear those things week after week until the holes became so big that my socks got drenched when I walked in the rain.

Speaking Up

Eventually, I had enough silence. I went up to my dad and said, "Dad, have you noticed that I need new shoes?" He said, "Yep.” I said, "Well, when are you going to get me new ones?" He said, "When you ask." Lesson learned. My dad wanted to be asked.

I don't know why that was so important to my dad. Maybe so I could establish a feeling of dependency on him. Had he taken me to the store without my asking for new shoes, I may not have felt how humbling it was to be reliant on him.

Aware vs. Involved

Whatever the case, my dad just preferred to be asked. That's all I needed to know. From then on, when I needed something I wasn't bashful about it. I went up to him boldly and stated my case. And he walked away loving the idea that he could give me something I needed.

Why pray? Because God likes to be asked.

So go with it...

Ask!

So now that you know God is aware of your need, ask him to get involved in your need. That may be the only reason he has waited!

Here are a couple of prayer-starters to get you going:

▪ Father, I know you already see that I need _____________. I know you are aware of my need, but now I ask you to get involved. Please supply__________________ according to your riches in glory. I am making an effort to seek your kingdom first and as I do, your Word says that everything else that I need will be taken care of. Thank you for that. Thank you for seeing what I lack and thank you for going to work on my behalf to provide it. In Jesus Name, Amen.

▪ Father, I thank you that you do see what I need. And you know what I need before I even ask. It's kinda crazy that you want me to ask you to intervene in situations you are already aware, but right now I ask for your involvement. I ask that you help me with this situation regarding _________________. I don't know what to do about it, but you do. Your word says that you will guide me and direct my steps. Lord, I'm calling on you and your Word says you will answer me and tell me great and unsearchable things I do not know. I am asking that you show me how to handle this the way you would want me to handle it. In Jesus Name, Amen. Thank you God, I give you the honor and praise!

The Secret to Never Forgetting to Pray for Anyone. Guaranteed.

I'm driving in my car on my way to my next appointment. I pass a car that looks like it could be someone I know. Suddenly my mind wanders over into, "Hey, I wonder how her mom's chemo treatments are going?"  I think: "I'll have to remember to pray for her later."

I arrive at my destination. I park and hop out of my car. My mind thinks back to a conversation I had with my daughter. She was concerned about a test she was taking. I'll have to remember to pray for that later too. I'll make a mental note.

Then I grab a cup of coffee and get seated at my meeting. I bump into Greg who tells me his neighbor was hit by a car last week. He's still in ICU fighting for his life. Wow! Add that one to the top of the list to pray for...later.

By now I've got quite a list going. Problem is - as important as these prayer needs are, they will fall off my list if I don't write them down.  And then even if I do, will I remember to grab the list before I start praying? Maybe. Maybe not.

So what usually happens?

My great intention to pray for all of these needs gets sidelined by busyness, distractions, and yep - my wandering mind. It's not that I intentionally forget to pray for these needs. I just don't remember.

Confession - I have a wandering mind. Researchers say that's because I have more brain capacity than most, which allows me to jump to other thoughts while on a task or subject. Hee hee! (Love that!) You too?! How smart we both are! But wandering thoughts get us in pickles. Especially when it comes to prayer.

Want to know the secret to never, EVER forgetting to pray for something or someone?

Pray it now!

Later may never come.

How bout the next time you realize someone needs prayer - you stop right there and pray? I've adopted this philosophy: When I can, when someone comes to mind, or when someone asks me to pray for them - I pray it now!

Eph 6:18 (AMP) says,

"Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty."

Pray It Now!

This means we can pray anytime, anywhere. We don't have to wait until we are in the right mood to pray. We don't even have to wait until we are in the right setting. Anytime, anywhere is a good time to whisper a prayer.

I'm not suggesting we give up our scheduled prayer time and switch to praying by the seat of our pants. No, we need to have a quiet time set aside where we can zero in on God with no other distractions. But when a prayer need becomes a distraction - because the need comes to mind - Pray it now! 

Bet you'll make more of a difference in people's lives. And think, the next time you see that person who needs a prayer, you won't have to say: "Yeah, I'll be praying for you. You're on my FUTURE prayer list." Or, "I'll get around to praying for you - if I don't forget!" Nope! You can ecstatically say:  "I was praying for you the other day!"

Mission Accomplished. Feels good, right?!

How God Uses You Through Prayer

Prayer is like improv theater. Ever watched "Who's Line Is It Anyway"? That show had me rolling on the floor! The American version of the popular British improvisational comedy show starred Drew Carey as the host. Carey would take suggestions from the audience and assign roles and scenarios to the comedian contestants, who then improvised a skit on the spot. If you need a good laugh, Google it. The reruns will have you in stitches!

In kind of the same way, C.S. Lewis wrote this about prayer and I just love it. In effect, he said,

The scene and the general outline of the story is fixed by the author (God), but certain minor details are left for the actors to improvise. It may be a mystery why He should allow us to be a change agent of sorts.

What Lewis was describing is like a scene from "Who's Line Is It Anyway" or any other improv theater. It's as if God gives us the outline but we are left to improvise. And we do so by our prayers. God uses prayer as the method to make things happen.

Why would God use prayer as the method of change?

I can only guess. But this I know: God made things happen with his words. He made things, created things, and changed things with the words he spoke. How did he create the world? By speaking it into existence. Words spoken bring change.

The Bible says we are called to imitate God.

If we are to do life like him, it's no surprise then that prayer is the method he chooses for us to intervene in the world. By our prayers we speak. And when we do, things take shape. Things move. Things happen. If it's the method God himself chose, it makes sense then that it's the method he chooses for us to use as well. He wants us to be like him. To speak like him.

Jesus told a fig tree to wither up and die. It listened. The next time he passed by - it was a goner! In fact, Jesus tells us to speak to the mountains that stand in our way. You can check it out. Look what Jesus told them:

I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it would move. Nothing would be impossible." Matthew 17:20 NLT

He actually instructed us to tell whatever stands in our way "where to go"! Bet there's a lot of people you'd like to tell where to go! Do it. But be nice!

Mark Batterson says in his book, The Circle Maker,

We control our world through prayer. What we speak occurs. Prayer is prophesy.

Prophesy is speaking something that is going to come to pass. Wow! If you have faith to make something happen by speaking to it - look out!

So prayer is like grabbing the outline that God has ordained and improvising or fleshing out the scene with our prayers. It's his method. When we use it, we change the world. Cool that he let's us do that!

And we don't just get to do it, we were told to do it. Genesis 1:26 (KJV) says,

Let us make man inn our image, in our likeness; and let them have dominion…over all the earth.

When God gave man dominion, he gave him the freedom to act as his authority figure on earth. So again, it's as if God sets the stage with the outline of his will. And we are the actors who improvise as we take dominion over the earth. We are told to make things happen, to take charge. This is why we pray. And this is why prayer changes things. And this is how God uses you through prayer.

Get ready to speak your lines. Prayer is not your prerogative; it's your assignment.

Who's line is it anyway?….It's yours. Speak!

A Sure Way to Get People Praying For You

So you're going through a tough time. Life has sucked the snot out of you and you are barely crawling to the finish line. Well, maybe it's NOT that bad! But you are up against a wall in some area of your life, right? I'm with ya. And a few times it crossed your mind, "I sure hope someone, anyone, is praying for me!"

That would be cool, huh? Feeling the prayers of others wrapping around you, offering you a hedge of protection, and issuing a wave of blessing in your life. Who wouldn't want that?

But then you wonder… “Is there anyone praying for me? Am I on anyone's radar? Do I come to mind as others are praying?”

There is one sure way to make that happen:

Pray for them.

Pray for who?

Anyone who comes to your mind.

The janitor who empties the garbage in your building, the guy who whizzed by you on the highway this morning, the gal who checked out your groceries, the pastor who preached his heart out to you last Sunday, the babysitter who watched your kids, the telemarketer who illegally called your cell phone after 9pm the other night…you get the idea.

Pray. Pray for ANY of them. Pray for ALL of them. Pray for them when they come to mind. Pray when you know what they are up against. Pray when you don't have a clue what's going on in their world. If you want others praying for you…you have to get the ball rolling.

How do I know it's up to you to get the ball rolling?

Take a look at Matt 7:2b

…the amount you give to others will be given to you [or the standard you use for others will be the standard used for you; with the measure you measure, it will be measured to you]. (Expanded Version)

This principle works in all areas of our lives:

  • If you want to have friends, you must show yourself friendly (Proverbs 18:24 KJV)
  • He who refreshes others will himself be refreshed (Proverbs 11:25)
  • Forgive and you will be forgiven (Luke 6:37-42)
  • What you sow comes back to you (Galatians 6:7)

Jesus was the one who started this whole thing:

[So always; So in everything] Do to others [Treat others as] you want them to do to [treat] you. This is [sums up; is the essence of] the meaning of the law of Moses and the teaching of the prophets…Matt 7:12 (The Expanded Version)

Can you say boomerang baby?! What you throw out there is gonna come back to you! You can't get out of the way! This principle will hunt you down and chase you. What you do for others will end up back in your lap! That's something to bank on.

So yes, I believe it's safe to say, the amount of time you spend praying for others can determine how much time others spend praying for you. 

Funny how we want to reap a harvest we didn't plant for. Before you determine what kind of harvest you want, figure out how much seeding or planting you're willing to do. Only then will your harvest be guaranteed!

You want two people praying for you? Ok, then pray for two people.

You want 20-30 praying for you, ok, then get praying for 20-30 people.

You want the masses praying for you, ok, you get my drift don't you?!

Sow the kind of seed you want to reap.

It's up to you how many people will be praying for you…and how many won't!

How to Turn Your Wimpy Prayers Into Bold Ones

If you're thinking God is hard of hearing, then shout louder!

“Shout you say?”

“At God?”

Yes!!!

When you don't think someone hears you, you inch the volume up a bit, right? And what you say becomes a little more, shall we say…forceful? Bolder? Like, "Hey, I'm speaking to you, listen-to-me" kinda voice.

This is the way I used to talk to my grandfather when he didn't hear me. My voice got louder so he would notice that I was trying to grab his attention. My volume increased but my respect for him remained in tack. I got bolder but with no disrespect. I just got a little feistier!

God Wants You to Pump Up the Volume!

It's in a similar way that God invites us to speak to him. God is not really hard of hearing, but sometimes it seems he is. Can you relate? Don't fear, he allows us to come at him boldly. It isn't a sign of disrespect, it's a sign that we are comfortable approaching him like we do an elder of our family. It's because we know he loves us that we can talk to him in a loud voice and with gutsy gumption!

Look at how this blind guy in the Bible got what he needed because he raised his voice (This is found in Mark 10:52):

"As Jesus was leaving town, trailed by his disciples and a parade of people, a blind beggar by the name of Bartimaeus, son of Timaeus, was sitting alongside the road. When he heard that Jesus the Nazarene was passing by, he began to cry out, "Son of David, Jesus! Mercy, have mercy on me!" Many tried to hush him up, but he yelled all the louder, "Son of David! Mercy, have mercy on me!"

49-50Jesus stopped in his tracks. "Call him over."

They called him. "It's your lucky day! Get up! He's calling you to come!" Throwing off his coat, he was on his feet at once and came to Jesus.

51Jesus said, "What can I do for you?"

The blind man said, "Rabbi, I want to see."

52"On your way," said Jesus. "Your faith has saved and healed you."

In that very instant he recovered his sight and followed Jesus down the road."

Blind Bartimeaus wouldn't have been healed had he not screamed!

Need a little more convincing that you can pump up the volume with your prayers? Look at this verse that shows what I am talking about:

“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” Hebrews 4:16 (NLT)

To be bold is to be:

  • Confident
  • Courageous
  • Forward
  • Strong
  • Firm

Is that how you prayed today?

Or were you more:

  • Timid
  • Hesitant
  • Bashful

Think about it. God is saying you can come at him with confidence, strength, and firmness so you can receive what you need from him.

James 5:16b (KJV) says:

“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

Fervent means to have or show great intensity of spirit, feeling, and enthusiasm. Synonyms include passionate and heartfelt. On the flip side, an ineffective prayer is one that is subdued, dispassionate, and not heartfelt.

So the next time you think God isn't listening, or when you're tempted to think he's hard of hearing... speak up. Talk a little louder. Put a bit of boldness in your voice. Feel it as you speak it. Get passionate if you want it bad enough!

What Ripped Prom Pants Have to Do With Praying and Solving Your Problems

He had the pink rose corsage atop a glamorous rhinestone bracelet, he had the prom tickets, he had the stunning date. Everything was perfect.

Until he was about to walk out the door.
Then the scream.
“Mom?!”
“Yes, son?”
“I have a hole in the side of my suit pants!”
Ut oh!

What did he do? He called for help.
Did he call for dad? Shoot no! Dad would fix the hole with duct tape.
Did he scream for his 14 year old sister? Nah...she'd probably staple it together.

He screamed for the best person for the job.
Mama to the rescue!
In under two minutes and 17 seconds, I grabbed my sewing kit, whipped out my needle and thread and said, "Ty, give me those pants, I'm gonna take care of this for you."
Within moments the problem was solved. Tyler rushed out the door, whisked his date off her feet, and they danced the night away!

Let's rewind.
Imagine a different scenario.
Tyler could have freaked out.
He could have tried to solve the problem on his own.
Or both...freak out and solve the problem on his own.

Know what he would have created?
A bigger mess.
And a frazzled state of mind.

....He would have been a fun date. Not!

But isn't that what we sometimes do when we discover a glitch that keeps us from going where we want to in life? We freak out. We try to fix a problem that we don't know how to solve. And most of the time we end up doing both, freaking out AND trying to fix the problem. Which causes a bigger problem; a bigger mess.

Here's a better option:
Fix your thoughts on God and you will have perfect peace while he gets the thing fixed.

You relax. You step aside. You surrender and let God solve your issue. You will finally be on your way without missing a beat.

Unless you freak out….Trying to fix it yourself.
Then your fix will be delayed. And so will your arrival.

I'd hate to picture this, but if my son was brainless enough to lose his cool over the rip in his pants and try to fix the hole himself, he would have made the pants look even worse. Can you imagine? Had he taken the do-it-yourself approach he would have spent three times longer on the ripped pants and arrived to the prom a half hour late. His date miffed, her dad ticked, and the whole night a downer.

When we try to take things into our own hands rather than running to God, who can fix our problem much better than we can, we risk delaying our solution.

So next time you are faced with a crisis:
• Don't freak out
• Don't fix it your way
• Ask for God’s help

"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…" Ephesians 3:20 (NIV)

Why pray if not all prayers get answered?

Because Jesus did.

Ask a kid, "Why do you ask your mommy for a cookie every day if she doesn't always give one to you?"

Answer:  “Because then I would never get a cookie. Even if she doesn't give it to me every day, there are days when she does say yes.”

Jesus prayed prayers that didn't get answered too. We are in good company.

He was not saved from death, even though he desperately cried out to his father to save him.

Even before the crucifixion, as he knew it was coming; he asked that he would be able to escape it by saying, "Take this cup from me".

Jesus knows the sting of unanswered prayer. His longest prayer ever recorded in John 17, is a plea that all believers would be in unity. That "All of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you." Do you see that happening? Nope. Not yet. Does that mean God said no? Seems like having us all in unity would be his will, right? But it aint happening or if it is it sure is happening slowly!

So if God hasn't denied the request, then the prayer is hung up in "wait" mode. It's just not time yet for that request to be granted fully. This gives us hope. Hope that even when a request is hung up somewhere, it doesn't mean it's not going to be answered; it just may mean it's not time for it to be answered.

What about when Jesus spent the whole stinking night in prayer before he chose his 12 disciples. I'm sure the hours he sacrificed sleep were all about asking God to help him choose the right guys. And when he learned that one of them was a traitor, did he look up to God and say, “Um, did you make a mistake here about this one?” “Or did I make a mistake and not hear you correctly?” Or maybe it wasn't a mistake at all. Obviously it was a part of God's plan. Judas brought Jesus to the cross which was God's plan to begin with. See, even when it seems prayer went the wrong way; it may have been the right way after all. Who knows if the prayers you didn't think got answered, really did… with an answer you didn't recognize.

If prayer doesn't matter and God doesn't answer, then why did Jesus pray? And better yet, why did he tell us to do the same?

Jesus prayed as if it made a difference.

The Bible says we do not have certain things because we do not ask God for them. (James 4:2). Evidently God will withhold things from us if we don't ask. That right there makes me want to pray!

I once heard Myles Monroe say something about a dream he had. The gist of the dream was that God has a storehouse in heaven. God took Myles up to that storehouse to view what was on the shelves. There were all kinds of great stuff piled up in there. Stuff Myles had wanted all his life. He asked God why all of that stuff was on the shelves. God said, "Those are the things that are yours, but you never asked for them."

Not sure about you, but I don't want any of my stuff to stay on a shelf piled up somewhere. The things I want and need are there for the taking. They are there for the asking!

If prayer didn't make a difference or if God doesn't hear our prayers, then why did Jesus model a response like God's to the widow who lost her son, to the outcast woman who's bleeding would not stop, and to a Roman officer whose servant had died? In each of these events Jesus showed them that God, the Father, does hear their prayers. And that their prayers matter. Their prayers were answered.

Jesus knew more about the will of God than any other being on the face of the planet, and in the heavenlies for that matter. Yet, he still peppered God with his requests. Taking our cues from Jesus, I would say, “Yes, pray. Even if it doesn't seem to matter...it does!”
